From "The Battle of the Bands" - 2013
Gettysburg National Battlefield
The quote on the home page of this web site describes actual events that occured on the night before The American Civil War Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in late December of 1862.  Brass bands from both sides of the conflict held their own special kind of battle that evening.  No shots were fired, no one was hurt, there was no clear victory.
On October 14th, 2017, The North/South Music Ambassadors along with The Stones River National Battlefield will re-create this historic battle as part of the park's annual month long " Sharing Our Past " event.  Brass musicians and drummers will converge on Murfreesboro from all over the country to duke it out while playing authentic civil war era instruments and music.  Bands will be about the battlefield and possibly in the city throughout the day and will come together in the evening for a great musical battle between North and South.  Just as history has recorded it, once again, lofty tunes will fill the air at Stones River.
Returning in 2017 to lead the Union Band is Jari Villanueva from Baltimore Md.  Jari is the founder of The Federal City Brass Band.
Leading the Confederate Band is Bob Baccus from Huntsville, Alabama and a founding member of Olde Towne Brass .
Nicky Hughes will once again officiate the day's battle with his unique style and grace.
